Draft Post [INCOMPLETE]: How am I feeling about everything this morning & Handling Criticism + Clay Shirky Videos

I got a little fired up about things yesterday.  There is an email waiting from John in regards to follow up that I have seen in my inbox but have decided not to read it just yet.  Instead I thought I'd take a few moments documenting my feelings about this issue, so this post is more of a reference for myself, but as always, you are welcome to read / provide feedback
  1. Is this off topic, seems more of web 1.0 issues.
  2. Random time tables, expectations through other
  3. Demands by offline means, trying to sabotage / scrape conversation ie move / transition to another comms framework.
  4. Issued of people getting paid to generate content (staff) compared to non paid (students)
  5. Am is biting the hand that will ultimately feed me?  Is it personal?  No I would argue that it is professional.
  6. Key principle I subscribe to "No problem been critical, as long as you offer an alternative".  John is quite capabable of having a blog that says here are the things that students .  Or we want you using it in this way or that way.
  7. Larger question of how I would teach it?  Probably why I am not teaching it.  I'm quite enjoying the course, and just for the record, think John is doing a good job.
  8. Not sure if it is worth taking to the student union, might just keep an eye on it for the moment.
  9. The issue of using others content is one that is supposedly dealt with in week 6 on mashups.
  10. Safe for me?  Underlying assumption in feedback is that I am the one that is making the learning process.  This is a sensitive issue for both parties, but the implication with how the feedback is structured is that I am in the wrong -> although I stated yesterday that I am / and have complied with this request, others may not (defamation?)
  11. Where is a safe place? At this point in time I tend to treat facebook as one, and turn a blind eye to most of the stuff people post on there. The principle I use here is that is more important skill for people to learn how to use a simple content management system (to upload photos, text etc) like facebook.  Depending on how closely you follow the conversation -> ongoing issue that facebook have, is that their founder started it as closed system and wants to shift the goal posts with privacy settings.  This has lead to some interesting discussion such as this New York Times information graphic illustrating the problem.
  12. With things like Facebook Docs on the horizon (an example of how companies are starting to think about this), it is conceivable that you may not need to use anything like word, email etc, you can do it all with Facebook.  I'm not sure if you think it would be weird if your lecturers asked if you wanted be facebook friends so that they can see / get access to your work  Which leads to the
  13. If this is all a bit weird, It is probably worth taking an hour to watch these videos on where the web is heading / now at.  Each video is about 20 minutes in duration and authored by Clay Shirky mentioned in the reading.
