Persistence and Reflection

The final two criteria I will post a video blog.

·         Persistence (5%) - this rewards problem solving ability, effort and resourcefulness, regardless of eventual results achieved. Where you have encountered problems, how have you gone about solving them? Have you helped other people solve theirs?

·         Reflection (10%)- quality and depth of your reflection on the processes you have undertaken and the relevance of these technologies to information management.

Having troubles with the video upload, this is a draft post only.

How successful have you been in carrying out technical processes, e.g. embedding resources into your blog?

·         Execution (5%) -  technical skills, how successful have you been in carrying out technical processes, e.g. embedding resources into your blog?

Throughout this process I have proved that I can:

• Embed a video
• Embed a document - used when we couldn't get the blogger wave bot to work.  (It was nice to get a mention on Lydia's blog about this)
• Publish pictures and text where available.  I used 3 methods as my google account no longer accepts new images.  The link was embedding via flickr, blogger where it worked and twitpic.
• Embedding a map was unsuccessfully in the time that I had available.  (I have done this before on another blog).

It should be noted that not all went to plan, I did have some weird presentation bugs.  I wasn't sure if it was just on my PC but Sal pointed it out as well.

@web2adventure I can't see your blog properly only the background and the title are showing up. You know this?

I am not sure why this happened, but fixing it is outside the skills taught in this course.  I changed my theme from that shown in the background of my @web2adventure twitter account to the simple grey and white themed one that is shown now.  

Interaction / Communication Criteria

In my last post I stated that My Group, Sal, Vanessa, Nemo and Dave were awesome to work with.  Besides talking about the assignment, I think that the activity most suited to doing as a group was Google Wave.  Seeing it in real time makes more sense.

·         Interaction / Communication (5%) - to what extent and how well have you interacted with other students, particularly your 'buddy' group? Particularly using these technologies.

Things that I did that I thought worked well were:

• I tried to respond to tweets wherever possible, to keep the conversation moving.  
• Be helpful, encouraging and support.

With that said, I have not completed any analysis as to how my grouped faired compared to my communication / interactions with other groups.  As I was monitoring the rss feeds regularly (infact they showed up on my igoogle homepage) it was just a case of finding a way to participate in whatever conversation was going on.  

Sal's feedback re presentation of links was also great, I was able to improve my presentation by heeding his advice (or at least when I remembered to do it).

Assessing it in this way.  Judging by how the other ones have gone from prior semesters, tend to be abandoned.  Blogs average abandoned age.  Example from semester 1.

Programming > reason I abandoned my topic for ISYS

From the subject guide:

• Participation (5%) - if you work through the entire tutorial and attempt the exercises, you should get full marks for this, regardless of how successful you have been.

As I have attempted all the exercises, I am hoping to do well here.  Other things I attempted were:

• Doing an extra wave with someone outside my group.
• Setting up bundles to help save other students some time.
• Giving Rick a hand to get started on twitter.
• Monitoring others RSS feed so that I would be aware of new posts.  This enabled me to comment on a lot of blogs as the assignment went on.  (There is however not an easy way to count these comments though - perhaps a platform other then blogger is more suited)

My Group, Sal, Vanessa, Nemo and Dave were awesome to work with.

Breaking the final task up into bit sized chunks - Was it fun?

Okay, I have 1 hour to finish the assessable component of my Web 2.0 Adventure.  This is my original draft post and I have decided to chunk it into smaller sections.

Q1. Was it fun?

This is what I originally wrote:

I agree with this still.  Probably the most fun was with Google Wave, it was good to see how it all comes together, how much work I can imagine that you get done once you are up and going (ie you understand the technical skills of how it all works).

One thing that I didn't do that I thought about was to write to Douglas Reith and get his input into how he uses the tool.  I met Douglas at Melbourne KMLF a few months back and we were chatting about it all then.  There are a couple of public waves that he helped set up.  Search for Melbourne Google Wave User's Group.

And how relevant has it been to your future (or current) career as an information professional?
Monitor twitter > current infromation.  In addition to updating ISYS sylabus...proquest, google....real time...act on it straight away

Is it all a bit of a blur? 
I was a bit light on in Wks 4 and 5 , have looked at these sections else where.

Did you know it all beforehand? 
Still not convinced, I believe a lot of these tools are simply more polished (ie front end cms) web 1.0 tools.  Is it really anything new?
How should we change it next year? 
Some of this should be pushed back into updating the IKE 1 sylabus.
Go for the whole semester....


Is there too much to do / not enough to do? etc etc.
Work level was ok if you did a little bit at a time.

Any comments on the communication process in your group, better ways to facilititate it?
